The tool

A space remover with exactly one behaviour

This route applies a single transformation: every whitespace character in the input is deleted, and the remaining characters are returned in their original order as one continuous string. There is no mode selection, no per-line handling and no preservation of structure.

Stating that precisely matters, because the competing tools for this term expose between two and seven modes and the default behaviour differs between them. Here the behaviour is fixed, so the output is predictable from the input alone.

Detection and transformation both run client-side, in JavaScript. There is no upload, no server round trip and therefore no run limit, since nothing here has a cost to meter.

Definition

Which characters the space remover treats as whitespace

Whitespace is a character class, not a single character, and the class is wider than most people assume. Everything below is removed by this route, verified against the engine rather than assumed.

U+0020 space, U+0009 tab
The two typed cases, including arbitrary runs of them.
U+000A and U+000D
Line feed and carriage return, which is why the output is necessarily a single line.
U+00A0 no-break space
Visually identical to an ordinary space, distinct in every byte-level comparison. The most common invisible failure in pasted values.
U+202F and U+200A
Narrow no-break space and hair space, both typical of justified or typeset sources.
U+3000 ideographic space
The full-width space in CJK text, which ordinary space handling routinely misses.
U+1680, U+2028, U+FEFF
Ogham space mark, line separator, and the byte-order mark, all of which fall inside the whitespace class and are removed.

How it works

How to remove spaces from text in three steps

The operation is lossy in one direction only, so sequencing matters.

Step 1
Retain the source. The output contains no record of where the removed characters were, so the transformation cannot be inverted.
Step 2
Paste and run. The transformation is applied to the entire input in one pass, locally.
Step 3
Verify the result against what you intended. A single-line output from multi-line input is correct behaviour here, not a fault.

The boundary case

Invisible is not the same as whitespace

The distinction that decides whether this route solves your problem: a character can render nothing and still not be whitespace. U+200B, the zero-width space, is the canonical example. It occupies a position, produces no mark, and is outside the whitespace class, so it passes through this tool unchanged. The zero-width joiner and the soft hyphen behave identically.

So a value that still fails an equality test after every space has been stripped is almost certainly carrying one of those, not a space. That is a different character class and a different route, the zero-width space remover, and conflating the two is the most common diagnostic error in this area.

Consequences

What stray whitespace breaks, and why it is invisible

Every failure here has the same shape: two strings that are visually identical compare as unequal, and the interface gives no indication why. A trailing U+0020 on a pasted reference, a U+00A0 inside an account number, a line break that survived a copy out of a terminal. Each one changes the byte sequence without changing the rendering.

The systems most affected are the ones performing exact comparison: lookups, joins, deduplication, authentication and imports. Normalising whitespace before comparison is standard defensive practice for precisely this reason, and doing it by hand is what this route is for.

Limits, stated

What this route deliberately does not do

It does not collapse, trim, normalise or selectively remove. Those are distinct operations with distinct outputs, and they are separate routes here: the whitespace minifier collapses runs to a single space, the line break remover rejoins wrapped lines, the accent remover handles diacritics.

It also accepts no file upload, offers no batch interface and exposes no API. A competing tool advertising a developer API is offering something this route does not have, and the honest answer is no rather than a vague one.

Where it is wrong

Inputs this transformation is wrong for

Prose. The transformation is structure-destroying by definition, so applying it to a paragraph yields a single unreadable token. That is the specified behaviour rather than a defect, but it is rarely the intent behind the search.

Source code. Whitespace is semantically load-bearing in two separate ways: it separates tokens in essentially every language, and it defines block structure in indentation-sensitive ones. Removing all of it is not minification, which preserves token boundaries, and the result will not parse.

Applications

Who uses a space remover, and for what

The valid applications share one property: the input is a value, not a document.

Identifier repair
Restoring a key, hash or reference that acquired whitespace in transit or wrapped across lines.
Comparison preparation
Normalising two candidate strings before testing equality, to separate a data problem from a whitespace artefact.
Export cleanup
Removing padding introduced by a fixed-width or formatted export rather than present in the underlying data.
FAQ

Space remover, answered precisely

All answered in full, nothing to click open.

How do I remove every space from text?

Paste the text and run the transformation. All whitespace is deleted and the remaining characters are returned as one string.

Is the space remover free?

Yes. No length cap and no run limit, because the work happens on your own device rather than a metered server.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

Not by this route. The transformation runs client-side. Other tools on this site that rewrite or generate text send content to a server and say so on those pages.

Does it delete line breaks?

Yes. Line feed and carriage return are whitespace, so a multi-line input necessarily returns as a single line.

Does it handle non-breaking spaces?

Yes. U+00A0, U+202F, U+200A and U+3000 are all inside the whitespace class and are removed.

Does it remove U+200B, the zero-width space?

No. It renders nothing but is not whitespace, so it is out of scope here and handled by the zero-width space remover.

Why does my string still fail an equality check?

Because something in it is invisible without being whitespace, most often a zero-width character or a soft hyphen.

Is the operation reversible?

No. The positions of removed characters are not recorded anywhere in the output, so keep the source.

What is the difference between this and the whitespace minifier?

This deletes whitespace. The minifier replaces each run of whitespace with a single ordinary space, preserving readability.

Are there configurable modes?

No. One fixed transformation, which is what makes the output predictable from the input.

Is there a file upload, batch mode or API?

None of the three. This route processes text pasted into the page.

Is there a length limit?

No. Nothing is transmitted, so nothing is metered or capped.

Does it work in a mobile browser?

Yes, with identical behaviour to desktop.

Should I run source code through it?

No. Whitespace separates tokens and, in indentation-sensitive languages, defines structure. The result will not parse.

Does it alter visible characters?

No. Letters, digits, punctuation and symbols are untouched and retain their order.

What happens to my word count?

It collapses to one, because word counting depends on the separators this route removes. Count before running it.

Does it remove the byte-order mark?

Yes. U+FEFF falls inside the whitespace class in this engine and is removed with the rest.

Does it remove accents or diacritics?

No. That is a separate transformation on the accent remover route.

Is it safe for confidential material?

Yes. Nothing is transmitted or retained, because nothing leaves the browser.

Why do competing tools offer seven modes?

Because collapse, trim, blank-line removal and full removal are genuinely different operations. Here they are separate routes instead of options.

Does it normalise Unicode?

No. Normalisation forms are handled by the Unicode normalizer route, which is a different operation entirely.

Can I run it repeatedly on the same text?

Yes, though a second run is a no-op: after the first pass there is no whitespace left to remove.
